Pimps Of Joytime released a new single, “Are You Gonna?” The song will appear on the funk and soul outfit’s upcoming album, Reachin’ Up, due out on April 15 via Regime Music Group.
Reachin’ Up — originally slated for a February 4 release — is Pimps Of Joytime’s first album in over four years following their 2017 LP Third Wall Chronicles. The band heralded the new record with lead single “Lesson” last fall and now follow with “Are You Gonna?”
Pimps Of Joytime frontman Brian Jay detailed the new song:
Cuban Cha-Cha and Jamaican Ska are at the heart of “Are You Gonna?” The track goes way back to when I was putting together the first Pimps album. I had rented a cabin in the woods and moved my gear there for a month. One night in an elevated state of consciousness, I just let this groove play for an hour and out of nowhere I started singing, “Are you gonna leave me and make me sing the blues again?” The rest of the song pretty much wrote itself. I am so happy this song finally made its way on to a Pimps of Joytime record.
