Sammy Hagar & The Circle Welcome Bob Weir At The Ryman

62

Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir was among Sammy Hagar & The Circle‘s special guests at The Ryman last night. Hagar’s band was also joined by Ronnie Dunn and Gavin DeGraw during Tuesday’s concert at the historic Nashville venue.

Weir, a longtime Hagar pal and neighbor, was in town preparing to launch a Bob Weir and Wolf Bros tour at the Ryman Auditorium tonight. Bobby emerged halfway through The Circle’s set to add to a cover of the Buddy Holly classic “Not Fade Away,” a live staple for the Grateful Dead and Weir’s post-Jerry projects. Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn came out briefly to sing a verse as he read lyrics off his phone.

Bobby stuck around to accompany Sammy Hagar and his The Circle bandmates bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham on Led Zeppelin’s “Rock & Roll.” Jason Bonham is the son of late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham while Michael Anthony co-founded Van Halen and was part of the lineup during Hagar’s tenure in the group.

Sammy Hagar & The Circle mixed gems from the frontman’s various projects throughout the night, including Van Halen cuts “Finish What Ya Started,” “Humans Being, “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” “Right Now” and more. The quartet enlisted Gavin DeGraw for the evening’s “When It’s Love” finale.
