Tedeschi Trucks Band left The Capitol Theatre on Saturday with some new hardware. For the closing night of the band’s three-show run over Oscars weekend, the owner of the Port Chester, NY venue, Peter Shapiro, awarded the band a trophy for “Rocking Our Souls” with the residency.

Saturday’s two-set performance began with “Signs, High Times” before he 12-piece rattling off such originals as “Don’t Drift Away” and “Misunderstood”. The first of many covers on the evening came in Leonard Cohen‘s “Suzanne”, followed immediately by Taj Mahal‘s “Everybody’s Got to Change Sometime”.

Susan Tedeschi took center stage for her solo composition “Just Won’t Burn”, before the nightly Derek and the Dominos quota was met with “Anyday”. “When Will I Begin” and “The Storm” then closed the first frame.

Returning to the Capitol Theatre stage for the last set of the run, TTB kicked things off with the pairing of King Curtis‘s “Soul Serenade” and the Grateful Dead‘s “Sugaree”, atypically appearing without its usual dance partners like “Angel From Montgomery” and, more recently, “Helpless”.

Further on up the road, the band paid homage to Dr. John with “I Walk On Guilded Splinters”. A sublime pairing of “Learn How to Love” and “Shame” then paved the way for back-to-back covers of Sleepy John Estes‘s “Leaving Trunk” and James Taylor‘s “Fire and Rain”. The second set then came to a climactic finish with “Bound for Glory”.

As Tedeschi Trucks Band took the stage one last time, Peter Shapiro joined them onstage. The jam impresario asked the clamoring audience, “So, how do you thank someone for three nights of that?” As a token of The Cap’s appreciation, he presented Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, and the entire band a trophy for “Rocking Our Souls” to commemorate the three-night stint. The award-worthy performances aside, Tedeschi Trucks Band and their fans also deserve recognition for donating over 1,340 pounds of food to The Capitol Theatre’s food drive. Finally, the run came to a close with a rendition of Bobby “Blue” Bland‘s “I Pity The Fool”.
