Dave Matthews appeared on CNN’s State Of The Union program yesterday. Matthews spoke with host Jake Tapper about the humanitarian crisis stemming from the war in Ukraine and other parts of the world. The Dave Matthews Band frontman performed his recently debuted song, “Something To Tell My Baby,” accompanied by a string section in support of refugees

Matthews initially played “Something To Tell My Baby” solo on February 20, 2022 to kick off the final show of his three-night run with Tim Reynolds at the Moon Palace on the Riviera Maya in Cancún, Mexico. Dave was backed by cello, violin and viola on Sunday’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper & Dana Bash.

“My mom used to always say that war is sort of like madness,” Matthews told Jake Tapper. “It’s like — it’s like a cancer. It’s like cells gone awry. It’s — suddenly, we — everything that we really naturally care about, other humans and our family, gets torn apart, and like is happening right now where you are in Ukraine.” Dave noted Yemen, Myanmar, Nigeria and Afghanistan are other regions, “where people are trying to just survive, and it’s violence that’s not allowing them to, and terrible violence.”

Matthews explained he recently finished writing “Something To Tell My Baby” and got “some friends together” to perform a song he thinks “somehow pertains” to the refugee crisis before adding, “but at least it pertains to all of us.” Dave asked viewers to donate to the International Rescue Committee, World Central Kitchen and other organizations helping those suffering around the world.
