Lucinda Williams took the stage at House of Blue New Orleans Friday night for a Jazz Fest late-night performance featuring swamp pop musician Tommy McLain and zydeco-influenced blues guitarist and singer/songwriter C.C. Adcock.
Following a long first day of Jazz Fest that included performances by Lionel Richie, Death Cab For Cutie, a tribute to James Brown featuring CeeLo Green, and many more, fans moseyed over to House of Blues for a slight change of pace. With Jazz Fest sets wrapping up for the day at 7:00, the crowd arrived for the not-so-late late-night show as the sun was still setting over the Crescent City. The 800-capacity club was intimate in comparison to the crowded festival grounds, which hosted tens of thousands of music lovers earlier in the day.
Tommy McLain and C.C. Adcock provided a local flavor to the show, opening the evening with two swampy sets before Lucinda Williams, a Louisiana native herself, took the stage, her messy hair illuminated by the stage lighting. The folk-country rocker released her latest album, Good Souls Better Angels, in 2020 and will join country star Bonnie Raitt on tour as support beginning at the end of May.
