Twiddle Welcomes MK Devo, Dan Neafsey & Jimmy Law In New Haven

69

Twiddle stopped by New Haven’s College Street Music Hall on Saturday. The Vermont-based band welcomed MK Devo, Dan Neafsey and Jimmy Law during the Connecticut concert.

Twiddle — guitarist Mihali Savoulidis, keyboardist Ryan Dempsey and bassist Zdenek Gubb along with drummer Adrian Tramontano who is filling in for Brook Jordan — got the show underway with a substantial version of staple “Syncopated Healing” followed by the relatively new tune, and recently released single, “Distance Makes The Heart.” The quartet then took “Every Soul” to the 14-minute mark.

Next, Twiddle welcomed guitarist Dan Neafsey on a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes Of The World.” Dan plays guitar and also makes them —including Mihali’s axe — as Master Luthier and owner of DGN Custom Guitars. After stretching out on “Eyes,” Twiddle and Neafsey would tack on the ending present on early GD versions of the Wake Of The Flood cut. Twiddle closed out the first frame with another expansive excursion on their classic “Doinkinbonk!!!” which contained elements of “Hedwig’s Theme” from the Harry Potter films.

The quartet kept up the jams to kick off the second frame with a nearly 20-minute “Latin Tang” followed by big versions of “White Light” and “Grandpa Fox,” the latter making its 2022 debut. Renowned videographer MK Devo, aka Dave Peck, then joined in for a spirited fronting of the band on the Red Hot Chili Peppers classic “Give It Away.” Next, Twiddle welcomed guitarist Jimmy Law of opening band Dogs In A Pile for set two closer “Apples.” Twiddle returned for an encore of “When It Rains It Pours.”
