Eric Clapton Announces US Tour 2022 & Postpones Concerts Due To COVID

Eric Clapton confirmed details of his 2022 U.S. Tour dates. Clapton also postponed the next two stops on his current tour of Europe after testing positive for COVID-19.

The guitarist, who opposed vaccine mandates and rallied against lockdown restrictions, postponed concerts originally scheduled for tonight in Zurich and tomorrow in Milan. Clapton aims to resume the tour in Bologna this Friday, May 20.

“Eric Clapton is unfortunately suffering from Covid having tested positive shortly after the second concert at the Royal Albert Hall,” reads an announcement on Clapton’s social feeds. “He has been told by his medical advisors that if he were to resume traveling and performing too soon, it could substantially delay his full recovery. Eric is also anxious to avoid passing on any infection to any of his band, crew, Promoters, their staff and of course the fans.” See the full note below:

Eric Clapton’s U.S. tour features seven shows spanning September 8 – 19. Jimmie Vaughan is aboard as support. The guitarist’s band for the trek will consist of Doyle Bramhall II, Paul Carrack, Nathan East, Sonny Emory and Chris Stainton as well as backing vocalists Sharon White and Katie Kissoon.

The run starts at Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio on September 8. Slowhand then hits Detroit on September 10 ahead of a two-night stand in Chicago on September 12 and 13. Next up is a performance in Pittsburgh on September 13 before Clapton concludes the brief tour with two nights in New York City on September 18 and 19.
