Guster Welcomes Josh Kantor & Ben Kweller In Boston

Guster kicked off a two-night stand at the House Of Blues Boston on Saturday marking their first show of 2022. The band welcomed singer-songwriter Ben Kweller as well as Fenway Park organist Josh Kantor for the hometown concert.

Guster got the show underway with “Careful” from their 2003 album Keep It Together. The band would lean heavily on that album as well as their 2006 LP Ganging Up On The Sun, performing five tracks from each album including “One Man Wrecking Machine,” “Manifest Destiny,” “Ruby Falls,” “Satellite” and “The New Underground,” (first time played in Boston since April 2007) from the latter album. The band also offered more recent material with four cuts from their 2019 LP Look Alive, “Don’t Go” and “Mind Kontrol” in the main set and an acoustic “Hard Times” to kick off the encore which also contained Look Alive‘s “Terrified.”

The guest spots came on tracks from the aforementioned Keep It Together as well as a ballpark staple. About halfway through the show and after “Demons,” Fenway Park organist Josh Cantor performed “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.” Kantor stayed on for Keep It Together’s “Homecoming King,” which included elements of Lipps Inc.’s “Funkytown.” Guster would close out the main set with “This Could All Be Yours” from their 2010 album Easy Wonderful.

Following the acoustic “Hard Times” to kick off the encore, Guster brought out Ben Kweller on guitar and vocals for “I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today” off Keep It Together. Following “Terrified,” the band closed out the concert with “Barrel Of A Gun” off 1999’s Lost And Gone Forever.
