Land Rover is commemorating the Defender’s 1992 launch in North American with a rugged, 30th Anniversary Edition limited to 500 units.
Prior to the Defender’s revival in 2020, the British competitor to the American Jeep was only sold stateside for five short years beginning with the 1993 Defender 100 First Edition. This one evokes the styling of the original, with a Fuji White paint coat, ebony grained seat facings, and gloss white stainless steel wheels.
The ’93 ride’s off-road appointment is also harked to with modern Land Rover fixtures, including the marque’s roof rack, mud flaps, fixed side steps, deployable ladder and wheel arch extensions. As Car and Driver notes, it’s based on the four-door 110 P300S with the base 296-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four, not the preferable 518-hp 5.0-liter V8.
But it does come loaded with a few options, including the Cold Climate Pack featuring a heated windshield, washer jets and steering wheel; a Towing Pack with configurable terrain response and all-terrain progress control (i.e. cruise control for off-roading); and the Off-Road pack with an electronic active differential and heftier tires.
A similarly equipped Defender 110 S would cost a few thousand dollars less, but those don’t get exclusive badging or one-of-500 status.
Priced at $76,350, the Land Rover Defender 30th Anniversary Edition is available to purchase now at North American dealers.
