Limp Bizkit Brings The “Dad Vibes” To Madison Square Garden As Fred Durst Performs From Recliner [Videos]

It’s no secret that nostalgia is huge these days. From reboots to reunions, what’s old is new again. While it’s not quite the Friends reunion the masses have clamored for, Limp Bizkit heard these calls for the familiar and began the most tongue-in-cheek comeback campaign that landed the nu-metal rockers at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

The long road to the World’s Most Famous Arena began at last year’s Lollapalooza, where Limp Bizkit was billed suspiciously high among top Friday headliners Post MaloneJourney, and Megan Thee Stallion. The Jacksonville, FL genre melders did not disappoint, as frontman Fred Durst debuted his new “Dad Vibes” middle-age look—complete with grey hair, mustache, and glasses—along with the band’s new single of the same name. This kicked off the campaign for the band’s sixth album, Still Sucks, which dropped last Halloween.

Limp Bizkit launched the Still Sucks Tour last summer, but canceled a majority of the dates due to COVID concerns. Now, the metal-hop tastemakers and stuff breakers are back, touring alongside a bevy of supporting acts including Californian hardcore outfit Scowl, British electro-punk rockers Wargasm UK, and Florida-by-way-of-NYC rapper $not, who all joined Limp Bizkit at the Garden.

Fred Durst’s antics remain a focal point of Limp Bizkit, as the frontman held court in a reclining chair to open the concert, adding to the “Dad Vibes” aesthetic. The 14-song set was loaded with Bizkit favorites including “Rollin’”, “My Way”, “My Generation”, and more. Friday witnessed the band turn in a mosh-inducing cover of Rage Against The Machine‘s “Killing In The Name” to a packed MSG floor while a surprisingly filled lower bowl looked on from safety. The show came to a nostalgia-inducing close with a run of “Nookie”, “Full Nelson”, “Take A Look Around”, and finally “Break Stuff”.

The Limp Bizkit Still Sucks Tour continues tomorrow, May 18th, in Youngstown, OH. For tickets and a full list of tour dates click here.
