Ryman Auditorium (aka the Ryman) in Nashville, TN has been designated as the 12th Rock & Roll Hall of Fame landmark.
Known as the “Mother Church of Country Music,” Ryman Auditorium has a long history of hosting rock & roll artists stretching all the way back to the genre’s earliest days. Rock & roll innovator Sister Rosetta Tharpe headlined the venue in 1948, with tickets costing $1.50 in advance and $1.75 at the door. Elvis Presley also performed on the Ryman stage in 1954, though the audience was not particularly fond of the young rock star, and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson made her Ryman debut the following year.
A historical marker placed at the Ryman lists additional Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees who have performed at the venue over the years.

While renowned as the ‘Mother Church of Country Music,’ the Ryman has regularly hosted a diverse array of iconic performers, including countless Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Hank Williams, B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Yes, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Hall & Oates, Blondie, and R.E.M.“
Bonnie Raitt had this to say about the venue: “This stage holds a special place in my heart as I’m able to perform live with many of the incredible Nashville songwriters in the audience whose work has enriched my life and music. I’m honored to help pay tribute to of one of America’s great rock & roll venues.”
