The new trailer for director Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic explores the darker side of fame, as “The King” becomes a bonafide pop culture sensation.

“In that moment, Elvis the Man was sacrificed,” narrates Tom Hanks’ character, Elvis’s notorious manager “Colonel” Tom Parker, as Elvis takes the stage to a screaming audience of teenage girls. “And Elvis the God was born.”

Austin Butler (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) stars as the hip-swiveling singer alongside Hanks, with Olivia DeJonge (The Society) playing Priscilla Presley.

The movie will focus primarily on the relationship between Parker and Presley, and chronicles the “Hound Dog” crooner’s speedy rise to stardom amid 1950s-era America’s rapidly-changing cultural landscape.

Luhrmann, who directed Romeo + JulietMoulin Rouge!, and The Great Gatsby, looks set to serve up his signature expect lavish visuals and over-the-top musical sequences, judging from the latest teaser clip.

Besides featuring plenty of Elvis songs, the soundtrack features a diverse list of artists including Eminem & Ceelo Green, Stevie Nicks, Doja Cat, Gary Clark Jr., Jack White and Tame Impala.
