Candler Park Music Festival made its return to Atlanta, GA over the weekend with the 2022 edition headed by The Disco BiscuitsGrace PotterTrouble No More, and Yonder Mountain String Band. The weekend saw a number of highlights, including the debut of a new Disco Biscuits song during the band’s Saturday headlining set.

The festival kicked off on Friday with an opening performance from Georgia’s own The Orange Constant. Then it was time for renowned musical madmen Andy Frasco & The U.N. to really get the weekend started with their set of festival antics. Yonder Mountain String Band then brought fans back down to Earth with a set of mountain music before Grace Potter closed down Friday with an impassioned, career-spanning performance.

On Saturday, the music got started bright and early with a set from Webster at 1 p.m. From there, Candler Park was off and running with a performance from CBDB. The long-running Tuscaloosa, AL-founded prog-jam ensemble recently announced an indefinite hiatus after over a decade together, set to take effect following the band’s Deebs Days celebration in Birmingham on August 19th and 20th. With the end of this chapter steadily approaching, each remaining CBDB performance is a blessing.

After that came a spicy taste of New Orleans with the Grammy-nominated Mardi Gras Indian funk band Cha Wa, prior to a set from Twiddle. The band’s mid-day performance hosted a surprise sit-in from rising guitarist Daniel Donato on a movement of “Hattie’s Jam” into “When It Rains It Pours”, as well as an appearance by Brandon “Taz” Niederauer on a set-closing “Lost In The Cold”.

Donato and Taz both hung around the stage for the penultimate performance of the night by Trouble No More. The new all-star Allman Brothers Band tribute act is racking up a show count faster than Phish fans during the Baker’s Dozen, with the band growing tighter with each passing performance ahead of a busy summer. Finally, the stage was set for The Disco Biscuits to close out the weekend. The trancetronic pioneers used the opportunity to debut the new original “Freeze” at the tail end of their set before a transition into their latest single “M1” and finally the ending of “Above The Waves” to close out the weekend.
