Greg Loiacono Releases ‘Giving It All Away’ Single

36

The Mother Hips co-founder Greg Loiacono shared “Giving It All Away,” the title track to his new solo album. Giving It All Away arrives on August 12 via Blue Rose.

The 10-track follow-up to 2020’s Mystic Traces was produced by Scott Hirsch and recorded at Spacecamp studio in Occidental, California. Spacecamp is a facility owned and operated by Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools. Loiacono leaned hard into his passion for soul music of the 1960s and ’70s on Giving It All Away, especially tunes examining love and heartbreak.

Greg is backed on “Giving It All Away” by Schools on bass, Hirsch on acoustic guitar, drummer Michael Urbano, keyboardist Danny Eisenberg and vocalist Kelly McFarling. Loiacono shared the following about the title track to his new album:

“The ‘you can’t take it with you when you go’ back-up vocals were my attempt at doing a ‘Pips’ thing as in Gladys Knight and The Pips. But the sentiment was taken from the insight meditation ‘Jack Kornfield.’ My mom gave me a bunch of cassettes of some of his old talks and I used to listen to them all the time when I drove around…a long time back…long enough to have a tape player in my car. He said it very off the cuff. I envision the shoulder shrug of an old Rabi with it ‘well, you can’t take it with you when you go, so…’ I listen to a lot of Sade. I had ‘Hang on to Your Love’ on the turntable last summer….just falling in love with her and her band all over again. And I wanted to respond to her lyric about hanging onto love with giving love all away….’Don’t hang onto your love.’”

“Giving It All Away” was accompanied with a video put together by Greg’s son, Noah. He recently moved to New York City and was inspired by the subway system to create the visual. Watch the video for Greg Loiacono’s “Giving It All Away” below:
