Pork Tornado Reunites At Joe Moore Benefit Concert In Vermont

72

Pork Tornado featuring Phish drummer Jon Fishman took the stage for the first time since 2013 on Sunday in Essex, Vermont. The 45-minute set at The Green At The Essex Experience came as part of the Joe Moore Cancer Benefit All-Day Music Festival.

Fishman formed Pork Tornado in 1997 with saxophonist Joe Moore, guitarist Dan Archer, keyboardist Phil Abair and bassist Aaron Hershey. Moore was diagnosed with cancer in September 2021 and is also dealing with additional medical issues. Joe has been based in Vermont since 1975 and has performed with an illustrious array of musicians including Stevie Wonder, Wilson Pickett, Maceo Parker and The Staple Singers. Dave “The Truth” Grippo stood in for Joe Moore with Pork Tornado on Sunday. The group began their set by performing “Move With You” and then launched into an expansive “Blue Skies” that spanned nearly 30 minutes and included both “Third Stone From The Sun” and “Streets Of Cairo” teases. “Move With You” and “Blue Skies” were each recorded by Pork Tornado for their self-titled 2002 studio album.

Pork Tornado closed out their first set in nine years with “Johnny Too Bad.” The song by reggae act The Slickers appears on the soundtrack from Jimmy Cliff’s 1972 movie, The Harder They Come. Left Eye Jump, Nobby Reed Project, The Spiders, Blues For Breakfast and the Joe Moore Band featuring special guest Martin Guigui were among other groups that performed at the Joe Moore Benefit Concert.
