Dave Matthews Band played “Pay For What You Get” to start their encore on Saturday night at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York. The song from the band’s 1994 album Under The Table And Dreaming had not been performed by DMB since August 1, 2015.
Saturday was the band’s second of two concerts at Saratoga Performing Arts Center as part of their extensive 2022 Summer Tour. Dave Matthews Band made their SPAC debut on September 3, 1994 during the HORDE Festival traveling tour. The venue has been a regular stop for the septet ever since with Friday their 41st headlining show at SPAC. Fittingly, DMB opened Friday’s concert with “#41.”
Dave Matthews Band worked a handful of rarities into Saturday’s show starting with the “Bartender” opener. Last night’s “Bartender” was just the second of 2022. The recently revived “Can’t Stop” followed before DMB paired oldies “Proudest Monkey” and “Satellite.” Last night’s 20-song performance rolled on with “Louisana Bayou” and “Sweet” ahead of the group’s third “Recently” of the tour which bled into “Warehouse.”
The septet continued to mix material from throughout their career as “Walk Around The Moon,” premiered in 2021, gave way to “Break Free,” debuted in 2006 and the classic “Seek Up.” Dave Matthews then put down his guitar to show off his dynamic stage presence on a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.” From there, “Come On Come On” led into the tour’s third “Minarets” and sixth “Lie On Our Graves.” A run featuring “Crush,” “Rooftop” and “Ants Marching” ended the set.
“We love coming here,” Matthews exclaimed when the group sans Rashawn Ross emerged for the encore. Dave then sang the first “Pay For What You Get” encore within a full band show since August 15, 2018. The group still had another treat in store for SPAC fans as a “Too Much” fakeout preceded a “Halloween” tour debut to put an exclamation point on the concert and SPAC run.
