Singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale confirmed a new album, Game Changer, arriving on August 26 via his Sky Crunch Records. The 2022 Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame nominee also shared the single “That Kind Of Life (That Kind Of Day).”

Game Changer is Lauderdale’s 35th full-length album and follows his 2021 LP Hope, which featured a track, “Memory,” co-written with longtime collaborator and late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Jim teamed back up with Hope co-producer Jay Weaver on Game Changer. Additionally, he returned to the famed Blackbird Studios in Nashville to cut the new album.

“There’s a mixture on this record of uplifting songs and, at the same time, songs of heartbreak and despair—because that’s part of life as well,” Lauderdale said. “In the country song world especially, that’s always been part of it. That’s real life.”

“Country music is constantly evolving, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for steel guitar and a Telecaster,” he continued. “I have done my job on this record if people who love classic country feel like they can put it on, or have it in their collection, and it would fit right in.”

The album’s lead single, “That Kind Of Life (That Kind Of Day)” boasts the steel guitar/Fender Telecaster combo Jim speaks of. The song also carries, “the sentiment and wishes for others to have a good life,” the singer-songwriter added.
