Ween performed “Among His Tribe” for the first time since 2017 during their concert Friday at Marymoor Park near Seattle in Redmond, Washington. Last night’s setlist also featured the rarely played “Loop De Loop,” which was last played by the band in 2019.
“Among His Tribe” came 21 songs into a 36-song main set and followed an elongated and trippy “Captain.” The appearance of “Among His Tribe” followed three performances in 2017 of the song off Ween’s 2003 album, Quebec. Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman played acoustic guitar and sang lead on the rarity.
“This is a song about time, circulations of time,” Gener told the audience while strumming the intro. After completing the first “Among His Tribe” since September 1, 2017, fellow guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo thanked the crowd and added, “We just practiced that for the first time.”
Near the end of Ween’s set, after “Baby Bitch,” Deaner noted the abundance of little kids in attendance. The group then launched into their fifth performance of the shoe-tying instructional ditty “Loop De Loop,” which was written for an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants and last played by Ween on Halloween 2019.
Friday’s setlist also saw a few other lesser played selections, “Mononucleosis,” “I Wuz Nuthin,” “Cornbread Red” and “I Play It Off Legit” among them. Those fell alongside such frequently played favorites as “Don’t Shit Where You Eat,” “Roses Are Free,” “Mister Would You Please Help My Pony?,” “Exactly Where I’m At,” “The Mollusk,” “The Stallion pt 3,” “Piss Up a Rope,” “Buckingham Green” and “Ocean Man.”
