Audemars Piguet Celebrates 50 Years Of The Royal Oak With Green-Hued $200K Watch

You might say that no one in the watch world knows how to best celebrate a milestone like Audemars Piguet, be it releasing a commemorative Roayl Oak photo book debuting a sleek, revamped timepiece,

“Sleek” is an understatement when it comes to the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT, a truly insane watch with next-level technical specs and the price tag to match (it clocks in north of $200,000).

The watch nods to 20 years of the Royal Oak Concept line, and also falls in line with 50 years of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak itself.

This watch is about as savvy and impressive as it gets, including the complicated, accuracy-bolstering tourbillon movement — the hand-wound caliber 2954 movement boasts a power reserve of 10 days.

The watch joins the ranks of other Flying Tourbillon GMT watches produced by the legendary watchmaker, yet this time it’s done up in an eye-catching shade of green (as if the rest of the dial itself wasn’t visually appealing enough).

The latest Royal Oak Concept GMT also features all the hallmarks of a classic AP watch, right down to the bold 44mm case diameter.

Two discs on the dial — one brass and one sapphire — rotate independently to track the time across the globe (the brass disc rotates once every 24 hours in a supremely cool bit of watchmaking).

Going a step further beyond that, Audemars Piguet outfitted this otherworldly watch with time zone tracker discs at the 3’o-clock mark — this is one timepiece that won’t ever miss a beat.

Of course, the precision and intricacy of the movement itself can be viewed through the caseback for good measure, and AP went for a mixture of rugged and refined by outfitting this watch on a green rubber strap.

The staggering price tag puts this well out of reach of all but the most serious Audemars Piguet collectors (or perhaps, your favorite athlete or movie star), but it’s an impressive timepiece all the same to marvel at in wonder.
