Beck, Tame Impala & Thundercat Among Gorillaz’s Guests At The Forum

Gorillaz was joined by an impressive array of special guests during their concert on Friday at Kia Forum near Los Angeles including Beck, Tame Impala, Thundercat and Del The Funky Homosapien. Frontman Damon Albarn‘s cartoon band also welcomed Schoolboy Q, EarthGang, Fatoumata Diawara, Bootie Brown, De La Soul and Sweetie Irie as part of the 28-song performance.

Schoolboy Q was the evening’s first guest, as the rapper came out seven songs into the show for the live debut of “Pac-Man.” Gorillaz tapped Schoolboy Q to contribute to the studio version of “Pac-Man” released as the fifth installment of their Song Machine series in 2020. Then, Beck emerged to reprise his role singing Song Machine track “The Valley Of The Pagans.” Next, Thundercat took the stage with Gorillaz for “Cracker Island,” the title track of the animated band’s upcoming studio album.

Gorillaz rolled on with their career-spanning performance sans guests for a while until EarthGang added to “Opium” and Fatoumata Diawara lent a hand on “Désolé.” Bootie Brown’s first appearance on Friday came soon after on “Dirty Harry.” Later, De La Soul collaborated with Gorillaz for “Feel Good Inc.” before Beck returned for the debut live performance of Cracker Island collaboration “Possession Island” to end the main set.

Tame Impala and Bootie Brown took the stage with Gorillaz to get last night’s encore underway with Cracker Island track “New Gold.” Bootie Brown stuck around for “Stylo.” Then, longtime Gorillaz collaborator Del The Funky Homosapien reprised his guest spot from two nights earlier in joining the band for the second live performance of “Rock The House” since 2002 and a show-closing take on the beloved “Clint Eastwood.” The finale also included contributions from Sweetie Irie.
