ALO multi-instrumentalist Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) was among Jack Johnson‘s guests for his two-night stand at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California on Wednesdy and Thursday. Brothers Ron Artis II and Thunderstorm Artis opened each show and sat-in with the singer-songwriter and his band.
Jack Johnson is currently on the road in support of his recently released album, Meet The Moonlight. Johnson, keyboardist Zach Gill, bassist Merlo Podlewski and drummer Adam Topol started Wednesday’s show with Brushfire Fairytales gem “Mudfootball” and chose “Inaudible Melodies” from the same 2001 LP to get last night’s concert underway.
Lebo emerged early in the night at the first show following a “Middle Man” performance that incorporated some of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe (In The Air).” The Bay Area musician was introduced by his ALO bandmate Zach Gill. Johnson then recalled meeting Gill and Lebowitz a long time ago at a party in Isla Vista, California. Lebo played pedal steel on Meet The Moonlight’s title track and the album’s “One Step Ahead” as well as “Constellations” and “Flake” on Wednesday.
Johnson brought back Lebo last night after Gill played a bit of ALO’s “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down” amid “Wasting Time.” Dan was on guitar for “Breakdown” from 2005’s In Between Dreams and went to pedal steel for the ensuing “No Other Way.” Lebo was then back on guitar on “Flake” to end his initial appearance on Thursday. Both versions of “Flake” saw Johnson work in Mungo Jerry’s “In The Summertime.”

Ron Artis II and Thunderstorm Artis helped Johnson end his main sets on Wednesday and Thursday at the famed Bay Area venue. The pair contributed to a take on Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?” and a medley of “Staple It Together” and “Mas Que Nada” each night. Additionally, the brothers lent a hand on the set-closing “Good People” on Wednesday and the “Mudfootball” that brought last night’s set to its conclusion. Jack Johnson began each encore with solo acoustic performances. Then, Lebo, Thunderstorm and Ron returned the stage for the “Better Together” finale both nights.
