Bob Weir, Pearl Jam, David Byrne, Devo & More Contribute To Abortion Access Benefit Compilation

62

Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros, Pearl Jam, David Byrne with Devo and many others contributed to the Good Music To Ensure Safe Abortion Access benefit compilation. The all-star collection of previously unreleased recordings is available for 24 hours exclusively through the Bandcamp Fridays program.

Proceeds from Good Music To Ensure Safe Abortion Access will be given to the abortion access non-profit organizations Brigid Alliance and NOISE FOR NOW who are working with the Abortion Care Network.

“Since the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Americans are traveling longer and longer distances for an abortion,” said Odile Schalit, Executive Director of The Brigid Alliance. “For people with limited resources, accessing abortion care can be all but impossible when you add up the costs of transportation, lodging, meals, and lost wages. The Brigid Alliance exists to help get people to an abortion provider – and back home again – no matter what it takes. The money raised through this benefit compilation will directly support our mission of making abortion borderless, burden free, and accessible to all.”

“NOISE FOR NOW is thrilled to see these incredible artists rally around Abortion Rights,” said Amelia Bauer, Executive Director of NOISE FOR NOW. “We know that this stellar group of musicians stands with the majority of Americans in believing that decisions about if and when to grow a family are deeply personal, and we must trust people to make those decisions for themselves without shame, stigma or criminalization. Abortion is healthcare. Liberate Abortion!”

Along with Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, Pearl Jam and David Byrne with Devo, others who contributed “never-before-heard new songs, covers, remixes, live versions, and unreleased demos” include R.E.M., My Morning Jacket, Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Fleet Foxes, STS9, Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, Death Cab for Cutie, Cat Power, Tenacious D, Animal Collective, Sleater-Kinney, Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall, Soccer Mommy, Andrew Bird, Erin Rae, Foals, Tune-Yards, Dirty Projectors, She & Him, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Hand Habits, Maya Hawke, Mary Lattimore, Bully, Grouplove, Sunflower Bean, Daniel Rossen, Jayla Kai, Silversun Pickups, Wet Leg, Squirrel Flower, Tristen, Michaela Anne, Annie DiRusso, Pluralone, Disq, PUP, Emma Bradley, Gia Margaret, Kills Birds, The Neverly Boys, Caroline Spence, The Album Leaf, Water From Your Eyes, Overcoats, The Regrettes, Charlie Hickey and Tegan and Sara.

“Every person faced with the choice to keep a pregnancy or not should have access to a safe and legal abortion should they choose one,” note Tegan and Sara. “Their body, their choice.”

Produced by Brilliant Corners Artist Management, Dave Eggers, Like Management, NOISE FOR NOW, Panache Management, TMWRK and Q Prime, the compilation’s cover art was created by Kim Gordon. T-shirts featuring Gordon’s “Liberate Abortion” artwork are available for pre-order.

Good Music To Ensure Safe Abortion Access follows the 2020 Good Music compilation Good Music to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy that generated over $600,000 through its two volumes.

“Independent clinics provide the majority of abortion care in the US, yet these dedicated providers often lack the visibility and resources they need to keep their doors open,” said Jay Thibodeau, Communications Director at Abortion Care Network. “Donating to keep clinics open in every state makes a huge difference to those who need care, and bold, public support for indie providers is deeply meaningful. It also matters that people who have, provide, and support abortion know that they are not alone: most people in the US support the right to abortion, and we are less alone when we can see and join unified, unapologetic calls to liberate abortion.”
