King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard shared a new single, “Iron Lung.” The nine-minute cut appears on Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava, an album set for release this Friday, October 7 via the group’s KGLW imprint.

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava is the first of three new King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard albums due out this month. The seven-song LP will be followed by Laminated Denim next Wednesday, October 12 before Changes arrives on October 28.

“‘Iron Lung’ (along with the other songs off this record) is the ultimate collab,” explained Stu Mackenzie. “We wrote the lyrics as a group and created the music out of improvisation. Spontaneous creation. The best kind. And that’s why I’m proud of it. Hope you dig.”

The Australian rock band previously shared Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava lead single “Ice V.” King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard debuted “Iron Lung” live at the Desert Daze festival in Perris, California on Friday as part of their North American tour opener. Mackenzie and his bandmates then played a Marathon Show at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California on Sunday. The lengthy concert featured a total of 26 songs with the first live “Ice V” among them. Additionally, Leah Senior contributed to the pairing of “The Reticent Raconteur” and “The Lord Of Lightning.”

SPOD prepped a trippy video for “Iron Lung” and wrote the following of the visual:

“When I heard this track I had just started delving into fully animated AI videos and thought what a good opportunity to use something I barely understand mixed with my love of effects from the dawn of digital video. So I poured myself into a cyber spiral for a couple of months and this is the result. I love how the song seems like endless ascending & descending cycles culminating in these dramatic explosions and lifts, so it felt like a perfect fit to dive into a 9 minute descent to hell and back. Unfortunately I still dream that I’m spiraling into the eternal abyss and I’m not sure I exist anymore.”
