Cuban superstar Cimafunk makes his Austin City Limits debut in a new episode of the legendary live music television series airing this Saturday, November 12 on PBS. Cimafunk was backed by his powerhouse band, The Tribe, during his appearance at ACL Live at The Moody Theatre this past May. JamBase is pleased to premiere Cimafunk & The Tribe’s rousing “Funk Aspirin” performance from tomorrow’s installment of Austin City Limits.
Cimafunk focused on cuts from his guest-heavy 2021 album, El Alimento, at The Moody Theatre. The Tribe was in full force on the ACL stage, showing off the outfit’s incredible horn section, dynamic dance moves, gritty grooves and otherworldly funk rhythms. “Put your hands up!” preached Cimafunk as he led the ensemble through El Alimento opener “Funk Aspirin.”
Recorded for El Alimento in collaboration with iconic musician George Clinton, the ACL “Funk Aspirin” is a standout performance that displays the frenetic energy of the Afro-Cuban funk sensations. Bassist Caramelo impressively anchors the penultimate song of Cimafunk & The Tribe’s first appearance on the show. Watch how it went down:

“Cimafunk’s ACL debut was breathtaking,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona in a press release. “He barely took a breath himself, and for that matter neither did the crowd, which was too busy dancing and screaming themselves. It was one of those rare shows where the performer and audience literally came together as one.”
“Austin is starting to feel like home away from home, and I wanted to bring the energy to Austin City Limits,” added Cimafunk. “It got really funky and sweaty in there with a lot of groove!”
