Circles Around The Sun’s Dan Horne Shares Playful ‘Hedgehog’s Song’/’Hedgehog’s Dream’ Double Single

Dan Horne, a co-founding member of Circles Around The Sun and Grateful Dead tribute band Grateful Shred, will release his debut full-length studio album, Count The Clouds, in April 2023. Two singles from the record producer/bassist’s upcoming LP, “Hedgehog’s Song” and “Hedgehog’s Dream,” premiere today exclusively via JamBase.

In November 2020, Horne issued his debut solo EP, The Motorcycle Song. Horne recorded Count The Clouds at his Lone Palm a.k.a. Liberty Hair Farm studio in Echo Park, Los Angeles.

Horne – the multi-talented multi-instrumentalist whose long list of past collaborators includes Jonathan Wilson, Ben Kweller, Mapache, Conor Oberst, Cass McCombs, Chapin Sisters, Pacific Range, Allah-Las, Beachwood Sparks and many others – played bass, guitar, drums, pedal steel guitar and keyboards on Count The Clouds, which he recorded throughout 2020 and 2021.

Among those who contributed to the album was singer Ny Oh from Harry Styles’ band on the track “Pieces.” On “Hedgehog’s Song,” a cover of the song off of the Incredible String Band’s 1967 album The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion, Horne is accompanied by accomplished keyboardist Frank LoCrasto. The Horne original “Hedgehog’s Dream” is described as “a companion dreamscape piece” to “Hedgehog’s Song,” which features “epic solos and Horne’s thick bass lines driving an epic jam.”

Horne is expected to embark on a solo tour in support of Count The Clouds in spring 2023. The album’s first two singles, “Hedgehog’s Song” and “Hedgehog’s Dream,” will be officially released tomorrow, Friday, December 2.
