Little Feat devoted 2022 to honoring the 45th anniversary of the concerts that yielded the band’s iconic 1978 live album Waiting For Columbus. The renowned classic rock act ended their busiest year of touring since 2006 with a show at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday, December 17.
Each Waiting For Columbus 45th Anniversary Tour stop saw Little Feat perform Waiting For Columbus in its entirety. The trend played out through Saturday’s finale, which featured special guest Nicki Bluhm. Nicki both played an opening set and joined Little Feat on vocals for a few songs.
The band — currently consisting of longtime members keyboardist Bill Payne, percussionist Sam Clayton, bassist Kenny Gradney and multi-instrumentalist Fred Tackett along with guitarist Scott Sharrard and drummer Tony Leone — took the stage as “Join The Band” played over the speakers. Little Feat then lit into “Fat Man In The Bathtub.”
Boulder fans were treated to the LP from front to back including such classics as “Time Loves A Hero,” “Willin’,” “Dixie Chicken” and “Sailin’ Shoes.” Bluhm helped out on a handful of songs with “Dixie Chicken” among them.
Little Feat made a few changes to the Waiting For Columbus tracklist in Boulder as they jammed “Spanish Moon” into non-album number “Skin It Back.” Additionally, they followed “Sailin’ Shoes” with blues standard “Got My Mojo Working” and the title track from 1988’s “Let It Roll” before concluding the night and tour by performing Waiting For Columbus closer “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.”
