Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty has helped her achieve self-made billionaire status, but she’s got even grander plans for the massively successful lingerie brand.
Speaking to the UK’s OK! magazine, the “Diamonds” singer explained how she’s constantly working upend culture’s “sexy” status quo.
“We are always challenging ourselves, challenging tradition and finding new ways of redefining sexy,” she said, per the Daily Mail.
That mission was exemplified in the latest installment of her Emmy-winning fashion show, Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, streaming now on Amazon’s Prime Video. Filmed from California’s Simi Valley, the event featured a star-studded cast of performers and models with body types every bit as varied as the boundary-pushing garments they wore.
“It’s fun because the Savage show is not really just a fashion show, it’s an experience,” said Rihanna, who modeled alongside hosts Irina Shayk and Cara Delevingne.
“There are so many aspects of entertainment all collided into this one experience. I was very excited about the location and the scale of the show. It was huge and outside.”
Highlights included performances by Anitta, Buran Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell, as well appearances by Johnny Depp, Empire’s Taraji P. Henson, and Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph.
“We were able to push the boundaries in regards to what we have been able to do before in other shows. It was a very beautiful show, very dynamic. I was excited for everyone to see it.”
“I wanted to do something dynamic, ridiculous, obnoxious and almost impossible, because I love a challenge,” she added.
Shortly after the show became available stream, Rihanna dropped what Vogue described as “her most risque Savage X Fenty lingerie yet”—a leather corset dress with a lace-up back and rose-embroidered chest.
