Goose made its inaugural visit to the Mother Church of Country Music on Thursday with the band’s debut at Ryman Auditorium. The concert at the famed Nashville venue opened a sold-out three-night run and featured an extended “Wysteria Lane”.

Coming off a historic five-night residency at The Capitol Theatre earlier this month, Goose appears to have developed a taste for multiple-night runs. Prior to the band’s takeover in Port Chester, NY, the band had not stayed at the same venue for longer than two nights. Now, as Goose graduates to a higher echelon of venues and hallowed rooms like The Cap and the Ryman, the band appears poised and ready to get comfortable in these new rooms.

To open the show, Goose offered the first-ever pairing of “Atlas Dogs” and “Atlas”. Thursday’s show marked the first time the Goose original and Wood Brothers cover were lined up in this particular order—the roles were reversed once before on October 15th, 2022 in Dallas per ElGoose.net—and the gradual lift of “Atlas Dogs” primed the momentum for the rattling intro to “Atlas”.

On loan from the Great Blue catalog, “Butterflies” made its eighth-ever appearance on a Goose setlist since being introduced to the band’s repertoire at Ohio’s Legend Valley last year. An ’80s synth version of “Indian River” then gave way to “Everything Must Go” before a nearly 20-minute “Rockdale” would close the set and offer a preview of things to come.

Goose evidently stayed loose through the set break, returning to the stage to offer up the expansive 28-minute “Wysteria Lane” right out of the gate. The telling caught fire early on as guitarist Rick Mitarotonda dug deep with intense Type I soloing, with the jam building and building until reaching a critical mass and opening into a wide, serene soundscape. Keyboardist Peter Anspach‘s piano flourishes quickly signaled a transition into “The Way It Is”, though the Bruce Hornsby cover wouldn’t arrive for another 12 minutes of—at-times—wandering jamming that was brazenly pushed along by Ben Atkind‘s drumming.

Coming out of the improvisational fog, “The Way It Is” hit the reset button on set two. The eery autotune of “Creatures” crept in next, opening up for some playful Rhodes work from Anspach as the band vamped into “Pancakes”. The audience clapped in unison to introduce the Great Blue crossover before Rick’s slinky guitar led the band through the last bit of extensive jamming of the night. Rather than propagating the song-and-dance of wasting valuable time leaving the stage, Goose played right up until curfew with a brief “White Lights” closing out the encore-less performance.
