While Lotus understandably pulled out of next weekend’s Resonate Suwannee festival in the wake of percussionist Chuck Morris and his son Charley’s disappearance, organizers have dedicated the event at the Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida on March 30 – April 1 to the memories of Chuck and Charley. Additionally, a celebration of their lives will be held during Lotus’ scheduled set time.

Chuck and Charley have been missing since Thursday, March 16, when they started a kayaking trip on Beaver Lake near Fayetteville, Arkansas. The search for the pair was recently shifted to a recovery effort.

“Each of us have worked with Lotus numerous times over many years and consider Chuck a friend and certainly a member of our extended musical family,” wrote Resonate Suwannee producers. “While Lotus has made the understandable decision to skip Resonate Suwannee next weekend, we are determined to forge ahead with the festival and to celebrate the lives of Chuck and Charley passionately. During Lotus’s scheduled set time, The Amphitheater Stage will remain dark in honor of these special humans.”

Longtime Chuck Morris friends drummers Jeffree Lerner (STS9) and Rohan Prakash (HIVE MIND) will assemble a drum circle in front of the Amphitheater Stage with attendees invited to participate. A slideshow featuring photos of Chuck will be displayed on a screen near the drum circle. Fans are invited to send photos of the percussionist to [email protected].

Organizers have arranged for visual artists to create a mural in tribute to Chuck near the Amphitheater Stage. “The public will be able to sign a guest book for the Morris family, bring flowers, light candles, leave photographs and have an opportunity to reflect about Chuck and Charley at this location,” added the Resonate Suwannee team. “We are thankful that during such a difficult time, we can all be together at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Nothing we do will bring Chuck and Charley home, but we know that being together will help everyone ease the pain with consoling hugs and a good cry on the shoulders of special friends that we are lucky to have.

Fundraisers for Chuck and Charley’s family will be announced in the coming days by Resonate Suwannee organizers. A GoFundMe campaign is currently underway to provide support for Chuck’s wife and Charley’s mother, Jenny Thompson, and family.
