24

Icelandic art-rockers Sigur Rós announced 2023 Summer Tour dates in Europe and North America featuring a 41-piece orchestra. The trans-Atlantic trek comes in support of the trio’s first album in 10 years.

Sigur Rós — guitarist Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson — have yet to reveal the name of the album, the follow-up to 2013’s Kveikur, and few details are available at this time save for a June arrival month. Additionally, the band shared via a press release that they have “spent the past few years writing and recording” and that album sessions took place at the storied Abbey Road Studios with the London Contemporary Orchestra.

Sigur Rós are set to perform some of the new material along with older favorites on tour with the London Contemporary Orchestra. The European run gets underway on June 16 at Meltdown Festival in London. The LCO will accompany the band on their subsequent European tour with stops in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Paris and more.

Sigur Rós begin their North American swing, accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra, on August 14 in Toronto. Two New York City dates follow at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre and Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on August 16 and 18 respectively.

After a concert in Boston on August 19, Sigur Rós will stop through Minneapolis on August 21 on their way out west. West Coast dates include Seattle on August 24 and The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California on August 26. Sigur Rós will wrap the tour on August 28 in Los Angeles.

Some European tickets are on sale now. A presale for North American dates begins on Tuesday, March 21. Tickets then go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. local time.
