Following the sudden and immediate indefinite hiatus of Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has chosen GRiZ to fill the band’s set with an additional performance on Saturday, June 17th. Taking over RKS’ 6:45–7:45 p.m. slot on the What Stage, GRiZ will present a “Chasing the Golden Hour” sunset set in addition to his previously scheduled Friday set.
Bonnaroo announced the lineup change on Friday, three days after Rainbow Kitten Surprise canceled all upcoming tour dates and announced an indefinite hiatus. A lengthy social media post from the indie rock group attributed the sudden cessation to a “medical crisis” facing one of its members.
“To make sure they have the time to get the proper treatment, we have decided to take down the entire year of shows and turn off the lights for now,” the band wrote in part. “We do not make this decision lightly, and we know that it will result in a lot of disappointment and concern, but we are a family, and we know that the most important thing we can do right now is to help get everyone healthy.”
Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s sudden hiatus left gaps in a number of high-profile festival lineups including Bonnaroo, Suwannee Hulaween, and Ohana Festival. Bonnaroo marks the first and only festival thus far to name a replacement.
Shortly after RKS’ announcement went public, GRiZ took to Twitter to offer his additional services to the iconic Manchester, TN festival.
