Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue returned home to New Orleans from their trip to Australia in time to help kick off Jazz Fest season with the seventh annual Treme Threauxdown at the iconic Saenger Theatre.

The festive post-Jazz Fest jam session featured a number of special guests, including funk legends Dumpstaphunk, country singer-songwriter Eric Church, soul maven Mavis Staples, new jazz trailblazer Robert Glasper, and NOLA’s own New Breed Brass Band, plus surprise guests MonoNeon, Cory Wong, Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), Taj MahalSteve Miller, and more.

These artists join the prestigious ranks of past Treme Threauxdown guests, which include Usher, Nick Jonas, Shaggy, CeeLo Green, Andra Day, Leon Bridges, Amos Lee, Wyclef Jean, Chad Smith, Dr John, Allen Touissant, Warren Haynes, and Jon Batiste. Last year’s event featured Joan Jett, Gary Clark Jr, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, David Shaw, and James Andrews.

This year’s Threauxdown kicked off a busy Jazz Fest season for Trombone Shorty, which also included Shorty Fest, a blowout fundraiser for his Shorty Foundation. The 501(c)(3) non-profit is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of talented youth through music education, instruction, mentorship, and performance. Held at the intimate and historic Tipitina’s, the concert featured appearances by NOLA funk legends and Tip’s owners Galactic, Afro-Cuban rockstar Cimafunk, and R&B torchbearers Tank and the Bangas.
