Gov’t Mule Shares 9-Minute, Beatles-Influenced ‘Made My Peace’ Single

Gov’t Mule unleashed “Made My Peace,” the final preview of their soon-to-be-released studio album, Peace…Live A River. The swampy, nine-minute single features majestic orchestral sweeps performed by The Kerhonkson Philharmonic.

Peace…Like A River, Gov’t Mule’s 12th studio album, arrives two weeks from today on June 16 via Fantasy Records. The band — guitarist/frontman Warren Haynes, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis, drummer Matt Abts and bassist Jorgen Carlsson — assembled to record The 12-song collection at The Power Station New England as part of the same sessions that yielded 2022’s Heavy Load Blues. Haynes co-produced both albums with John Paterno.

The quartet shared the first taste of Peace…Like A River in April with the release of lead single “Dreaming Out Loud.” Keyboardist/vocalist Ivan Neville and vocalist Ruthie Foster contributed to the song. Other guests on the forthcoming LP include Billy F Gibbons, Billy Bob Thornton and Celisse. Mule issued the LP’s second single, “Same As It Ever Was,” last month.

There’s no denying the major Beatles influence on “Made My Peace.” Warren created a main riff that isn’t too far a stray from “Come Together” and the song would fit well on Abbey Road or Let It Be. Haynes acknowledged the connection while explaining the genesis of “Made My Peace,” stating:

“‘Made My Peace’ is one of the first songs we recorded for this new album and portrays the most Beatles influence we’ve ever utilized on a recording. It deals with a lot of different aspects of what we’ve all gone through. It touches on the emotions I was having to get past with the loss of my dad, who was an extremely important figure in my life. There are several songs that reflect on loss, but more in a way of making the future count. Taking the rest of your life and looking at it with a fresher, more aggressively positive attitude.”
