Madison Cunningham released a cover of Björk’s “Army Of Me” and a reimagined version of her Grammy-nominated song “Life According To Raechel.” The tracks arrived as a part of the Spotify Singles series.
“Life According To Raechel” appears on Cunnigham’s Grammy-winning 2022 album, Revealer, which took home the award for Best Folk Album at the 65th annual ceremony. Her Spotify Singles version of the acclaimed song, cut at Spotify Studios in Los Angeles, offers “soothing vocals that sound almost like a whisper, beautifully conveying the emotion of the song,” as per a press release.
Also recorded in L.A., Madison’s Spotify Singles “Army Of Me” — originally appearing on Björk’s 1995 album Post — sees the singer-songwriter nodding to the Icelandic artist.
“Bjork is easily one of my favorite artists of the 21st century,” Cunnigham said. “Her voice and songwriting are completely singular and in no way in need of reinterpretation. Though I found it intriguing to take an angsty song with 80’s production like ‘Army Of Me’ and turn it into a gothic ballad humming under those kind of lyrics. The angle is from a far more tortured one, rather than the one of control she sings from. And I related to that a lot while reimagining it.”
