See Grateful Dead Travel ‘Lazy River Road’ At Ohio’s Buckeye Lake In 1993

The Grateful Dead shared video of “Lazy River Road” as the latest installment in their All The Years Live series. The footage is from the band’s June 11, 1993 concert at Buckeye Lake in Hebron, Ohio.

GD debuted “Lazy River Road” on February 21, 1993 at Oakland Coliseum. The song remained in heavy rotation throughout that year — they played it 13 more times between it’s debut and Buckeye alone — and beyond, as Dead archivist David Lemieux pointed out in his notes accompanying the Buckeye Lake video:

“Debuting earlier in 1993 and played a shade under 70 times between 1993 and its final appearance, at the Grateful Dead final show on 7/9/95 in Chicago, Lazy River Road was one of the strong batch of new Garcia-Hunter songs that arrived in 1992 and 1993 and included So Many Roads, Days Between, and Liberty.”

With its kicked-back vibe and descending chorus line, “Lazy River Road” is one of those songs that expertly embodies its title. It puts the listener on a dusty dirt road along a shimmering river on a hot summer day or sultry night, accetuated by well-placed slide guitar from Bob Weir, barroom piano from Vince Welnick and a swell fingerpicked solo from Jerry Garcia.
