Goose continued its summer tour on Sunday with yet another strong showing with new drummer Cotter Ellis.

The one-off show at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Cleveland, OH saw Goose finding a groove with its fresh lineup. Kicking things off with “Elizabeth” and a brief “Lead Up”, the band sped things up with a fast version of “Echo of a Rose” that took a detour through “Green River” by Creedence Clearwater Revival before reaching its conclusion. The CCR classic was a fitting cover choice given the venue’s position on the banks of the famously polluted Cuyahoga River.

Later in the set, during “Your Ocean”, the Goodtime III (a sightseeing ship and Cleveland institution) happened to be cruising by the outdoor, waterfront stage and gave a big honk at the start of the jam, drawing a loud cheer from the crowd and bringing a smile to the face of guitarist Rick Mitarotonda (You can hear the honk at the 4:12 mark in the recording below). That fortuitous interaction elevated the already electric show to new heights as Goose finished the set with two big jams on “Time to Flee” and “Butter Rum”.

A captivating “Arrow” started a second set that outdid the first with a memorable “Borne” and included “Sleepwalk” by Santo & Johnny, “Electric Avenue”, and “White Lights”. Before the encore, Jon “Coach” Lombardi stepped on stage with a banner that fans had hung on the rail at Goose’s previous show that read, “Please play ‘Slow Ready’” in all caps. The band obliged, capping off an unforgettable show with the altered live staple from 2022’s Dripfield.
