Goose wasted no time launching into its 2024 summer tour with plenty of energy on Tuesday night in St. Louis. Fresh off its appearance at Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie in neighboring Illinois over Memorial Day Weekend, Goose and its new drummer Cotter Ellis were ready to keep the start-to-summer party going for its Midwest fans.

The band dove headfirst with the opening “All I Need”, which gave guitarist Rick Mitarotonda his first opportunity of the evening to take the packed venue on an exploratory journey and lead the way through an impressive opening jam. The energizing start to the first set danced and grooved right into the familiar arpeggios of “Time to “Flee”, which peaked to a stellar climax for one hell of a start to the night. The band wrapped the first set with “Borne” from 2022’s Dripfield and provided the original a dark and extensive jam to take the crowd into set break.

Upon the band’s return to the stage, Trevor Weekz picked up right where they left off by tearing into the funky opening bass lines of “Yeti”. The jovial and funky performance of the Great Blue original allowed Peter Anspanch to shred his way through some lead guitar lines. The second set continued with a masterful performance of “Slow Ready” that gradually climaxed to elevate the indoor venue into quite the dance party with Anspanch leading the way. Mitarotonda busted out his Spanish for the band’s first 2024 take on Sergio Mendes‘ samba rock tune “Mas Que Nada” to keep the second set rolling, and the band continued with several originals before closing the night with a mesmerizing cover of David Gray’s “Please Forgive Me”.

Goose returns to The Factory on Wednesday to wrap its two-night run in St. Louis. Check out a gallery of images from Tuesday’s tour opener courtesy of photographer Tom Shackleford.
