Katy Perry has announced her return to Australia as part of her recently-announced Lifetimes world tour, which supports her sixth album 143. The multi-platinum American popstar will play arenas across Australia next June, marking her first tour in seven years – following the Witness tour in 2018. A full tour itinerary for Perry’s return, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.

The tour announcement comes in the wake of Perry being revealed as the entertainment for the AFL grand final, set to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground this Saturday (September 28th) between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions. Coincidentally, this venue was the last place Perry performed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic circa March 2020 – performing at the T20 World Cup less than a week before lockdowns were enforced globally.

In an interview with Sunrise earlier today, Perry revealed that her performance would also feature “a surprise performance of a favourite Australian artist” that she “look[s] up to”. When pressed on details, Perry replied she was “sworn to secrecy”.

Perry released 143 last week (September 20th), which features contributions from artists such as 21 Savage, Kim Petras and Doechii. The rollout of the album, however, has not been without its controversy. Perry was criticised for once again working on tracks for the album with longtime producer Dr. Luke, who has long-standing allegations of rape and abuse from Kesha. The album’s lead single, ‘Woman’s World’, was also criticised for its “tone-deaf” portrayal of feminism and empowerment in both its lyrical content and its music video. This lead Perry to defend the video and describe it as “satire”, although it remains unclear exactly what was being satirised.
