311 has announced the upcoming release of the band’s highly anticipated 14th studio album, Full Bloom, on October 25th and dropped a new single, “Need Somebody”, with an accompanying visualizer/lyric video.

Following the album’s introspective lead single, “You’re Gonna Get It”, which broke into the Top 15 on Alternative Radio, making it the band’s highest charting song in 13 years, “Need Somebody” opens with a chugging guitar riff and steady drums before the vocals arrive to flesh out the band’s signature rap-rock sound. Using the ocean surf as a metaphor for drowning in life’s troubles as witnesses bask on the beach without batting an eye, the song addresses the need to call on others when times get tough, even when you think you’re strong enough to survive on your own:

“I got caught in the undertow / Tried to ride a wave got pulled below / Couldn’t bring myself to wave my hands / Cuz I thought they could see me from the sand / But now don’t get me wrong / I know someone has been there all along / But that’s just how I’ve been feeling  / All the time.”

“We hope fans can take from this album 311’s message of positivity and unity,” the band said in a press release. “In today’s world it’s so easy to become alienated by the pressures of everyday life. Whether it’s social media, stress at work, an illness, the list goes on. It’s so important to stay open with your loved ones and community so we can all thrive in full bloom.”

The band recently sold out its biannual cruise in under 24 hours and the 30th anniversary reissue of its 1994 album Grassroots was met with a staggering 40,000% surge in sales, rising to #34 on Billboard’s list of best-selling albums with the vinyl charting at #11.
