The Flaming Lips Debut ‘Dinosaurs On The Mountain’ At OKC Space Bubble Concert

99

The Flaming Lips resumed their run of space bubble concerts from The Criterion in the band’s hometown of Oklahoma City on Thursday. The psychedelic rockers delivered the debut of “Dinosaurs On The Mountain” during the encore.

The Flaming Lips conducted a test run of sorts for the bubble concert concept back in January. Frontman Wayne Coyne has been rolling around audiences in giant plastic bubbles for years and the idea translated well to the socially distanced COVID-19 era. The March 11 concert kicked off with a pair of classics in The Soft Bulletin’s “Race For The Prize” and “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1.”

The set also featured newer material from the band’s 2020 album American Head including “Flowers Of Neptune 6” and “Will You Return / When You Come Down” interspersed with older favorites like “She Don’t Use Jelly” and “Are You a Hypnotist??” The Lips closed out the set with “Laser Hands.” The band would return for a three-song encore beginning with “There Should Be Unicorns” before unveiling American Head’s “Dinosaurs On The Mountain” in a live setting for the first time. The classic “Do You Realize??” brought the show to a close.

Singer-songwriters Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield) and Kevin Morby were in attendance. Check out Kevin’s Instagram posts below:
