In the week in between the first and second weekend of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the city doesn’t take too much of a break, continuing to host countless shows each night that take advantage of the world-class musicians who flock there each spring and that feature enviable collaborations and sit-ins. While these days between (“Daze Between”) officially came to a close yesterday with the dozens of performances that took over the Fairgrounds—including performances by Widespread PanicGeorge Porter Jr., and the supergroup Voice of the Wetlands, featuring Tab BenoitAnders OsbourneWaylon ThibodeauxJohnny SansoneGeorge Porter Jr., and Joh—the city has been in full Jazz Fest mode for a week now with no plans of slowing.

As just a sampling of what New Orleans has been offering to locals and out-of-towners who are currently swarming the city, we’ll run you through a handful. On Tuesday, May 2nd, Bitches Bloom, a tribute to Miles Davis featuring Lettuce’s Eric Benny Bloom, Nigel Hall, Adam Deitch, Ryan Zoidis and Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff took over the Blue Nile, while across the way at One Eyed JacksThe Whipfeaturing Pimps of Joytime’s Brian J, Greyboy All Stars Robert Walter, and Les Claypool’s Mike Dillon went full force late into the night.

Wednesday saw an early performance by John Medeski and Johnny Vidacovich at the Maple Leaf, leaving folks time to head over to Megalomaniacs Ball at the Howlin’ Wolf, which featured the Mike Dillon Band and special guest Dean Ween. Then, Thursday, following the second weekend’s inaugural day this year, Marco Benevento and funk all-stars Lettuce hit the Joy Theatre, putting on a raucous show for attendees to truly in-gear for the rest of the weekend. Check out photos from these performances this week below, courtesy of Dave Vann.
