Triple J Announces J Award Winners For 2017

140

The results are in for the 13th annual J Awards, with triple j pounding its mighty gavel and passing final judgement on the best local artists and releases of the year.

A.B. Original have walked away as the big winner, beating out the likes of Alex Lahey, Gang of Youths, Meg Mac, The Smith Street Band & more to take home the trophy for Australian Album Of The Year, off the back of their explosive politically-charged LP Reclaim Australia.

It comes after the hip-hop collective also swept this year’s Music Victoria Awards, the National Indigenous Music Awards and the Australian Independent Music Awards.

Meanwhile, the Double J Artist Of The Year J Award, which celebrates the artist who’s slayed the airwaves over at triple j‘s digital older sister station, has been swept up by Jen Cloher.

Elsewhere, Tash Sultana passes her Unearthed Artist Of The Year crown to Stella Donnelly, who’s bagged the accolade for 2017 off the back of her breakout singles ‘Mechanical Bull’ and ‘Boys Will Be Boys’, and will reign for the next 12-months.

And finally, on the visual side of things, Client Liaison have claimed the Australian Music Video Of The Year gong for their Tina Arena-starring in-flight adventure music video for ‘A Foreign Affair’, directed by Tim White, which you can check out below.

In case for some reason you didn’t know, the J Awards are part of triple j‘s Ausmusic month, which celebrates the tunes being farmed in our very own backyard.
