Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha have released their first piece of music together in 18 years as The Smashing Pumpkins.
Dubbed ‘Solara’, the band’s landmark reunion single is an up-tempo grungey rocker slightly reminiscent of their Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness era.
Produced by Rick Rubin, the track also features Pumpkins 2.0 member Jeff Schroeder on guitar, with the band switching to a three-guitar lineup to emulate their signature layered sound.
Notably absent from proceedings is OG bassist D’arcy Wretzky, who’s been involved in an ugly and very public mud-slinging match with Corgan since her exclusion from the band’s big reunion.
The 3/4 reunited Pumpkins are believed to be releasing two new EPs in the near future, and embarking on a North American tour under the banner of Shiny And Oh So Bright.
No Australian dates have been announced yet, but fingers crossed those won’t be far off.
