‘MTV Unplugged’ To Make Long-Awaited Australian Debut With Gang Of Youths

MTV‘s iconic ‘Unplugged’ series is set to make its Australian debut later this year, with a performance from local rockers Gang Of Youths.

‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’ will be televised, and will feature a number of different artists, kicking off with a Gang Of Youths performance filmed on 25th July at the Cobblestone Pavilion in Melbourne’s Meat Market.

The show will see the band perform stripped-back versions of songs from their latest album, 2017’s Go Farther In Lightness, to a live audience.

“‘MTV Unplugged’ is pretty extraordinary,” says Gang Of Youths frontman Dave Le’aupepe. “To hear the crackles in their voice, something that feels intimate and really powerful.”

‘MTV Unplugged’ debuted in 1989, and has hosted iconic performances from the likes of Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Oasis, The Cure and Florence + The Machine.

The first episode of ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’ will be broadcast on a yet-to-be-announced date via Foxtel, Foxtel Now and Fetch. It will also receive a full audio/visual release for downloading and streaming services. Other artists to feature on the series are still to be announced.

“‘MTV Unplugged’ is one of the most famous music shows ever created and we are excited to bring it to Australia for the first time,” says MTV APAC Vice President Simon Bates.

MTV is distributed in 790 million+ homes so it’s an exciting opportunity for Australian artists to potentially reach a new global audience.”

2018 has been a huge year for Gang Of Youths, who are also set to embark on a huge national tour and a run of shows with Foo Fighters later this year.
