The Music Center in Los Angeles will host a pair of all-star concerts in honor of Joni Mitchell’s 75th birthday. The JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration events will take place at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on November 6 and on Mitchell’s birthday, November 7.
The concerts will feature performances of “songs from all stages of Mitchell’s life and career, across the entire oeuvre of her 19 studio albums” by Emmylou Harris, Graham Nash, Kris Kristofferson, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Los Lobos, Norah Jones, Rufus Wainwright, Seal and Glen Hansard. The concerts will be led by co-musical directors, percussionist Brian Blade and pianist, composer, arranger and producer Jon Cowherd. The house band will include Chris Thomas on bass, Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar, Marvin Sewell on guitar, Jeff Haynes on percussion, Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet and Bob Sheppard on woodwinds.
Following the all-star concert on November 7, The Music Center will present a special birthday celebration and fundraiser for the organization’s artistic programs, The Music Center’s Soirée: JONI 75. Mitchell will be given The Music Center’s Excellence in the Performing Arts Award, “acknowledging her pioneering spirit and timeless art and music.”
