Bob Weir Performs At Pathway To Paris Event In San Francisco

172

On Friday night the fourth annual Pathway To Paris concert was held at the Masonic in San Francisco. The event, which capped the Global Climate Action Summit, was headlined by Bob Weir and Patti Smith and also featured performances from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer Eric Burdon, Tenzin Choegyal and French performer Imany.

The Dead & Company rhythm guitarist delivered a six-song set that saw him backed by Don Was on stand up bass and Alex Koford on drums. Weir got his portion of the night going by playing a pair of tunes on the acoustic guitar. First up he looked to the Grateful Dead songbook, kicking things off with “Loose Lucy.” Bobby then reached for one from his 2016 collection of cowboy songs Blue Mountain serving up “Only A River.” Weir next welcomed Ramblin’ Jack Elliott out to the stage. Before handing Elliot his acoustic guitar and switching over to an electric one Weir paused to share that he had met the folk music legend back when he was 16 saying he didn’t have time to tell the entire story but said he hoped to one day have the full tale recorded. The quartet then delivered a take on “Friend Of The Devil” with Elliot assisting on vocals.

Weir remained on electric for the remainder of his set as the trio next served up a jazz-tinged, stripped-down take on “The Other One” with “Touch Of Grey” bringing his headlining set to close. Bobby returned to the stage later in the night as joined in behind Patti Smith on the “People Have The Power” which served as the grand finale.
