Veteran musician Keller Williams will issue Sans, his first ever entirely instrumental album, on October 19. Today, JamBase is pleased to premiere the opening track from the LP, “Fat B.”

The forthcoming record contains eight songs that Williams originally released as solo guitar pieces along with a new tune. “Sans, as in without lyrics, is my first attempt at an instrumental record. Acoustic instruments interwoven with technology, brings these rhythmic pieces to life,” Keller said about the LP when it was first announced. “I’m trying to release something like the music I listen to. I think I got close with this one.” KDub mixed acoustic bass with both live and sampled drums for a series of tracks Williams refers to as “acoustic dance music.”

“Fat B” is a song that dates back to 1998, as Keller first released the tune on his Spun LP. Williams completely reworked “Fat B” for Sans with help from upright bassist Danton Boller. “The title comes from tuning the low E string down to low B which makes it ‘Fat.’ Speaking of fat Danton Boller is the god of the upright bass and he’s skinny. Please enjoy,” Keller tells JamBase.
