With their nationwide tour underway, Greensky Bluegrass made a stop at St. Paul, MN’s Palace Theatre on Friday night, offering up a high-energy two-set spectacle in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Following memorable Red Rocks Amphitheatre shows last weekend, Greensky continued their expansive fall tour on Friday night with support from Ghost Light, the new improvisational project from fan-favorites Tom Hamilton and Holly Bowling.

Greensky opened the evening with “Roberta”, moving forward with setlist staples “A Letter To Seymore”, “Last Winter In Copper Country”, “200 Miles From Montana”, and “While Waiting”. Next, Ghost Light’s Tom Hamilton and Holly Bowling were invited up to assist on electric guitar and keys for a trio of tunes. Notably, Hamilton recently sat in with GSBG at Red Rocks for a ripping take on “Cry Holy, All” > “Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox”, wowing the sold-out Sunday night audience.

With Hamilton and Bowling onstage, the seven-piece band went into a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark”, with Bowling tickling the ivories with precision. Next, the band worked through “I’d Probably Kill You”, changing the lyrics to tip their hat to frequent collaborator and friend, Billy Strings. With Hamilton and Bowling still on stage, Greensky brought set one to a close with a cover of The Dillards’ “Reuben’s Train”, as the Midwest crowd erupted with applause.

Following a brief set break, Greensky Bluegrass opened set two with “What’s Left Of The Night” before working through GSBG favorites, “Miss September”, “Train Junky”, “Old Barns”, and “The Four”. To close out Friday night’s second set, Greensky burned the Palace Theatre to the ground with “Kerosene”. Greensky Bluegrass encored a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You”, an ode to the iconic songwriter who spent his earlier years in Minnesota.
