Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Announces New “Game Of Stones” Run

99

Today, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe announced a new live tribute, “Game of Stones,” which will explore the vast repertoire of The Rolling Stones. Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe presents Game of Stones will debut over a three-night run, which begins Halloween night at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY, before heading to Colorado for performances on November 2nd at 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco and November 3 at The Boulder Theatre in Boulder.

As Denson, who has served as the touring saxophonist in The Rolling Stones since the passing of their legendary, longtime reedman Bobby Keys in 2014, says in a press release, “Game of Stones will unite the seven kingdoms under the banner of Richards & Jagger.”

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe is well-versed in re-imagining and celebrating the musical catalogs of other bands, having toured “Eat A Bunch of Peaches”, an ode to The Allman Brothers Band; “Dirty Mind”, a take on Prince‘s 1980 album; and even “Sticky Fingers”, a presentation of The Rolling Stones’ 1971 album, ahead of his official affiliation with the band.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe presents “Eat A Bunch of Peaches” has their next show on Saturday, October 6th at the upcoming Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, TN. On the second day of the festival, October 7th, Karl Denson will team up with fellow collaborator and The Rolling Stones’ musical director Chuck Leavell for a very special “Stones Throw” set. The performance will explore the extensive catalog of The Rolling Stones and feature current and former backing band members of the pioneering rock act, including Bernard Fowler (vocals), Darryl Jones (bass), Tim Ries (sax), and Lisa Fischer (vocals). Later that night, Denson and Leavell will regroup with the Mempho All-Stars, featuring pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, keyboardist Cory Henry (Snarky Puppy), guitarist Isaiah Sharkey (John Mayer, D’Angelo), drummer Nate Smith, bassist MonoNeon (Prince, Ghost-Note), guitarist Orianthi (Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper), turntablist DJ Logic, and guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, to jam together on a variety of covers pulling from the catalogs of soul, funk, and rock and roll.
