Neil Young & Willie Nelson Headline Farm Aid 2018 – Photos & Pro-Shot Video

As reported the 33rd annual Farm Aid music festival and benefit was held at the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford on Saturday. The all-day event whose mission statement is to “raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on the land” was headlined by Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young backed by Promise Of The Real and Dave Matthews, who teamed up with his longtime musical partner Tim Reynolds.

Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Lukas Nelson, Particle Kid and Ian Mellencamp offered truncated sets with the fest’s headliners beginning their turns as the day turned to night. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds were up first opening things up with “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” and serving up fan-favorites like “#41,” “Lie In Our Graves” and “Ants Marching.” John Mellencamp didn’t shy away from his hits as the roots-rocker treated fans to “Small Town,” “Jack & Diane,” “Rain On The Scarecrow” and “Pink Houses.” Neil Young was up next, with the legendary musician teaming with Promise Of The Real. Young and POTR got their portion of the night going with “Tell Me Why” from After the Gold Rush. From there Young would mine material from throughout his career ranging from “Field Of Opportunity” from Comes A Time to “Show Me” from 2016’s Peace Trail to “Children Of Destiny” from his most recent studio album The Visitor. The midportion featured the ensemble tackling a trio of classics with “Powderfinger,” “Heart Of Gold” and “Ohio.” Willie Nelson reprised his role as traditional Farm Aid closer. The country music icon delivered fan-favorites like “Whiskey River” and “On The Road Again” with classic country covers from Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams. Nelson closed out the lengthy festivities with a pair of traditional tunes delivering “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “I’ll Fly Away.”
